SXSW

What began as a local music festival in 1987 has now become one of the most popular music festivals in the US. Located here in Austin, SXSW includes over 2,000 international music acts, a film festival showcasing independent films/documentaries and a large technology trade show.

If you were to sum up SXSW in one word, it would be “Diversity.” Where else can you see bands from Taipei, Azerbaijan, Berlin and Dublin all in the same night? And because over 200,000 people attend each year, this is the perfect venue for many popular and up and coming bands to showcase their talent and potentially get their big break.

Don’t think of SXSW as a couple giant stages with a sheer mass of people. That is not what SXSW is. Bands perform all over downtown Austin in more intimate settings. Think of it as your one chance to see 10 bands in a single night and hop from venue to venue.

SXSW provides a unique opportunity for investors. For one, I’ve seen many home owners rent out their properties as vacation homes and be able to make a nice return on their investment. Moreover, SXSW provides international exposure for our city each and every year.

At last count there were over 724 bands from all over the world planning to attend this year’s SXSW.  Some of the countries represented include: Canada, Mexico, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Norway, Scotland, Spain, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela, China, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. Austin is becoming a large international city and investors are coming here from all over the world.

2014 SXSW Interactive: Mar 7-11 | Film: Mar 7-15 | Music Mar: 11-16
